Conservation-related causes are close to my heart. As a documentary filmmaker passionate about creating conservation films, filming the Timbavati Traverse was a fantastic way to use my skills to give back. The Timbavati Traverse is a fundraising initiative to raise much-needed funds for conservation initiatives in and around the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.
What makes this event so unique and special is that runners get the chance to run a marathon in the Timbavati amongst the wild animals. It’s not only a bucket-list activity for athletes, it’s a genuinely feel-good cause.
We are all aware of the rhino poaching war that is happening out there. Funds from events like this assist anti-poaching initiatives to protect these special animals. What made the day extra special was when the runners came across a couple of rhinos. Not worried about the time, runners could stop, appreciate, and admire these beautiful rhinos for a moment before settling back into their race.
There are only a limited number of spaces available. From 2023, there will be a marathon, a half-marathon, and a half-marathon walk. It caters to a wide variety of individuals. There is lots of entertainment and good food for the rest of the family while they wait for the runners to return.
If you are a runner wanting a one-of-a-kind experience, enter the Timbavati Traverse and support the cause. Visit their website for more information at http://timbavatitraverse.co.za
